A CORFU WEDDING EDITORIAL
It does take a cinematic plunge, like the 1981 007 film 'For Your Eyes Only' to tap on the beauty that Corfu presents to begin scratching the surface of this Italian architecture and British legacy - vested island of the Ionian Sea. Deciding to put a pin on the map for Corfu as your wedding destination and probing Pinterest for what to expect has probably left your eyes sparkling with cypress-studded hills, lush gardens, stunning views of the ocean from a dangling staircase, age-old forts and establishments that are nothing sort of magical. Or maybe you have your heart set on having your photographs taken at Achillion, the summer palace of Austria's empress Elizabeth. We love Corfu for its untamed beauty and venetian aesthetics, but we wished to take this wedding editorial a step further! Villa Sylva where the actual 007 film was shot is one of the most exclusive venues on the island, opening its gates for esteemed guests and their weddings only recently. Utterly luxurious, esconced in the heart of a maze-like massive garden where the second most ancient eucalyptus tree in the world has its roots, this multileveled gem comes with its own lillypond, olympic size sea-water pool and balconies where jaw-dropping vistas of the entire island and constantly shifting sky and sea palette are everyday reality. What more could we ask for to get entirely swept off our feet, but a superb team of vendors who waived their magic wands to transform our villa into a fairytale scene. Our master planner Belli Momenti brought in damask silk linen, to dress a gorgeous reception table for four, where soft lilacs and dusky pinks interplayed with fine porcelain and touches of cooper. His idea was to create an elegant poolside scene attuned to the villa's natural beauty but adding a small dose of color that matches the crepuscular palette of the evenings on the isle. Belli Momenti made use of ghost chairs to create a perfectly airy feel for dinner that would allow the couple's table to shine, while creating a ceremonial scene in the shape of a crescent made of Pampas Grass and florals Leonidas Rammos. We were so endeared to be working with Mr. Rammos an artisan of exquisite talents and extraordinary floral vision. The floral vision entailed both Belli Momenti and Leonidas Rammos' concept that the wedding bouquet as well as the arrangements should create a lovely frame that evokes the union of the couple. For the same reason they created a circle of pampas grass for the ceremony and created two flower and greenery runners for the couple's intimate dinner. For the bride's hair and makeup Thalia kept things minimally chic with fresh dewy makeup by Charlotte Tilbury and Anastasia Beverly Hills, and two different hairstyles, a prairie braid and long waves, while our dress coutourier Kamelia Andrioti, designed and created our bride's dress sur mesure for the shoot in long milky silk and deep decoletage to accentuate the long minimal gown silhouette that is so in season. We'd be remiss not to mention the black and white real diamonds (earrings and oval engagement ring) in our jewel trousseau,by Kousvelaris the bride's unique hairpieces by bridal hairjewelry artisan Lovely Elysian that came all the way from the Netherlands and the lovely stationery suites created by on-spot calligraphers Beautiful Letters in Italy. Last but definetely not least our cake master Cake Boutique Corfu, created a textured oil-painting buttercream gateau to fuel every art lover's cake dreams.
